It is a nasty cold Fall day here in Oregon and nothing is more easy to bring up your spirits and make the house smell all yummy and like fall than some homemade potpourri.

Forget the chemical candles, potpourri, sprays and plug-ins. Make your house smell like you’ve been baking all day in a matter of minutes all with fresh ingredients!

DIY Potpourii

Here is what you need:

• apples
• oranges
• dried cloves
• dried bay leaves
• cinnamon or cinnamon sticks
• water

In a small pan combine all your ingredients. A chunk of the orange, rind and all. A chunk of apple. A sprinkle of dried cloves. A couple dried bay leaves. A cinnamon stick or two or a dash of ground cinnamon. Add some water and bring to a boil. Then turn on simmer and your done! Just be sure to check the pan often and add more water if you need.

Feel free to customize your ingredients too depending on the smells you are looking for. I like this one because it is like fresh apple pie and fall spices. When your done for the day you can put it in a closed container in the fridge to bring out the next day. Great idea when friends or family are coming over!
